The town, the Rocks and the lake: three different places
Before you plan your visit, it helps to tell apart three places that are often confused:
The town of Suesca
The town center, with its main square and its colonial church. This is where buses from Bogotá arrive.
Rocas de Suesca
A sandstone cliff along the Bogotá River, known across Colombia for rock climbing.
Laguna de Suesca
A wetland on the border between Suesca and Cucunubá, surrounded by hills and farmland. Our flying site, Delaire, is in this area.
Discover Laguna de Suesca
The lake sits on the border between the municipalities of Suesca and Cucunubá and is part of a water reserve created to protect the wetland and the birds that visit it. Its water level has changed a lot in recent years, so the landscape looks different from season to season.
It’s a place to slow down and take it in: clouds reflected in the water, the fields and hills around it, and the birds that gather near the shore.
Visiting responsibly
- Much of the land around the lake is private: don’t enter without permission.
- Watch birds from a distance and keep noise down.
- Take your trash with you and leave nothing on the shore or in the water.
Take a paragliding flight

One of the best ways to see the lake is from above. On a tandem flight you fly with a pilot who handles the technical side, so no previous experience is needed.
With Parapenteando you can choose from three experiences at Laguna de Suesca: Meditación, a relaxing flight; Explora, with more time in the air; and Adrenalina, a more dynamic flight with possible maneuvers depending on conditions and the pilot’s safety judgment. Every flight depends on the day’s weather.
Adventure and climbing at Rocas de Suesca
Rocas de Suesca is the town’s best-known attraction: a sandstone cliff several kilometers long beside the Bogotá River, with hundreds of climbing routes for beginners and experienced climbers alike.
Besides climbing, the area is popular for rappelling, walks along the base of the rocks and photography. Pre-Hispanic rock art is still preserved on parts of the cliff.
The Rocks are in a different part of the municipality from the lake and our flying site. If it’s your first time climbing, go with a local guide or school that has experience and the right equipment.
Hiking and nature
Beyond the Rocks, Suesca has country roads and nature trails for walking, mountain biking and taking in the views. The Cundinamarca government highlights, among other places, the old railway line and the Cañón de la Lechuza. Local operators also offer caving and trips on the Bogotá River.
Some trails cross private land or are done with a guide. Before you go, check with local operators or the Suesca town hall about access and whether you need a guide.
Plans for couples
If you’re traveling as a couple, you can round off your flight with some quiet time after landing. These are two Parapenteando add-on experiences:
Fireside in the Mountains
Time by the fire, with hot drinks and something to share, after your flight. Available at Laguna de Suesca.
See Fireside in the Mountains (This page is in Spanish)Picnic Among the Clouds
A picnic for two, surrounded by nature, so you can stay a little longer after your experience. Availability depends on the site, so confirm it for Laguna de Suesca when you book.
See Picnic Among the Clouds (This page is in Spanish)These are add-ons to the flight: they must be booked in advance and depend on availability and the day’s conditions.
Where to stay at Laguna de Suesca
If you’d like to stay longer than a day, one option is Alma de Campo Glamping, with domes and cabins across from Laguna de Suesca. Besides accommodation, it offers food and activities such as kayaking, so you can mix quiet time by the lake with a bit of adventure.
Alma de Campo is a Parapenteando partner. Want to turn your visit into a special getaway? Together, we offer the Plan Aventura Todo Incluido, combining accommodation, meals, kayaking, and a paragliding experience for two people.
Packages start at COP 1,050,000, depending on your choice of accommodation. Check the conditions and availability before booking.
Planning a trip from Bogotá
According to the Cundinamarca government, Suesca is about 59 km northeast of Bogotá. Travel time depends on traffic leaving the city and the route you take.
Getting to the town
Buses run from Bogotá’s Terminal del Norte (North Bus Terminal) to the center of Suesca. You can also drive.
Getting to the flying site
Delaire isn’t in town. If you’re flying, search for “Parapenteando Suesca” on Google Maps (its location is registered in Cucunubá). If you arrive by bus, you’ll need local transport from Suesca.
What to wear
Suesca has a cool climate, with an average temperature of around 14 °C (57 °F). Bring layers, a rain jacket and comfortable closed-toe shoes.
Weather
The weather can change during the day. Check the forecast before you leave, wear sunscreen even when it’s cloudy and have a backup plan.
Tips before you go
- Plan your day by area: the town, the Rocks and the lake are in different places, and getting between them takes time.
- Book ahead for activities that need it, such as paragliding, guided climbing or add-on experiences.
- If you’re flying, remember that flights depend on wind and weather and can be rescheduled if conditions aren’t safe.
- Bring water and snacks, especially if you plan to hike or climb.
- Respect the environment: leave no trash, stay on the trails and ask before entering private land.
